History

St. Joseph StatueIn 1920, American Catholic women established the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW) at the request of the U.S. bishops who recognized the work accomplished by many separate Catholic women's groups during World War I.

Today, NCCW maintains an effective and beneficial relationship with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

NCCW brings the values and voice of American Catholic women to meeting of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations, the United Nations Department of Public Information, Catholic Relief Services, and other national Catholic organizations serving the needs and interests of women and children.
